Ongoing Projects
I have recently begun a project exploring American travel writing in China and its uses during the republic. This focuses on the writing, photography and life of ‘prince of vagabonds’ Harry A. Franck.
My other research interests include Sino-foreign cooperation in medicine during the early years of the Chinese republic. In particular, this work focuses on the life and career of 颜福庆 FC Yen.
Past Work
My previous work covers the sociology and practice of internationalised higher education in China and the history of medicine. You can read my papers on Google Scholar.
I recently published a study of the importation of American varsity sport to early republican China, using materials from the Yale University mission in Changsha (雅礼).
Media Work
Alongside my academic teaching and research, I am always looking to participate with filmmakers and influencers creating content with a historical or cultural theme. I have previously collaborated with Europe Culture Television (欧洲华文电视台) and the Fuzhou and Fujian television companies (福州/福建省电视台).
I also provide voice talent to academic presses including East China Normal University (华东师范大学 and Century Press （世纪出版社）。
